Navarra is a prominent wine region in northern Spain, located in the southern half of the autonomous region of Navarre. Vineyards stretch across the lower slopes of the Pyrenees, descending toward the Ebro river basin. This geography brings a diversity of microclimates conducive to quality winemaking.

The climate in Navarra is mainly continental with Mediterranean influences—cold winters and warm, dry summers are typical. Rivers and elevation provide cooling effects, extending the growing season and preserving acidity in the grapes. Soils vary from limestone and clay in the higher areas to alluvial and sandy soils near the river, supporting a wide array of grapes.

Traditional grape varieties in Navarra include Garnacha, historically used for robust rosé (rosado), while in recent decades Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Graciano have gained importance for reds. For white wines, producers often use Chardonnay, Viura, and occasionally Muscat. Wines here range widely: from fresh, lively rosés to structured reds and crisp, aromatic whites. The DOP is divided into five subzones, each with distinct profiles.

Appellation rules focus on permitted grape varieties and yield limits. Notable towns and areas include Olite, Puente la Reina, and Ribera Alta. Navarra wines are typically approachable, with juicy fruit flavors and balanced acidity. Reds can age well, while rosés are best enjoyed young for maximum freshness.
